I have the honor to acknowledge Y.E's
reply of yesterday to my
despatch letter No. 134
Complaint
12th Feb 134 of 8th inst.
As regards
the occupation
of Naiter's range by the
Military
Authorities at the time of my
assumption of the administration
of
Kowloon,
a clause allusive to
that of the formal cession to which
I have referred in
my
letter to
Y.E., I must be strangely
misinformed, as
on the day
I walked
over
the ground on which troops were then quartered
a day or two previously
with the Earl of Elgin.
The
d... company
ground has been since abandoned by
the Military, & as it lies beyond
both the present Civil & Military
encampments it is difficult to
understand
in what way
it can
be said to be within the Military
lines.
I have been careful hitherto
to avoid all
interference with
